Honoring Marital Vows with Complete Fidelity

I am surprised how many times the saying my taught me as a child applies in life. The saying: Avoid the very appearance of evil. In situations of infidelity it makes for an easy of how this principle still rings true. If it looks bad to a casual observer it is on the path of making bigger mistakes.

Life is Beautiful

In “The Family: A Proclamation to the World” it declares that God has commanded that the sacred powers of precreation are to be employed only between man and woman, lawfully wedded as husband and wife.  It goes on to explain that a husband and wife should “honor marital vows with complete fidelity.”  Many may feel that infidelity is solely having sex outside of marriage.  However, being completely faithful to one’s spouse requires more than avoiding adultery.

President Spencer W. Kimball taught us “Marriage presupposes total allegiance and total fidelity.” We marry with the understanding that we will give ourselves completely to our spouse and that any divergence is sin.  We show our faithfulness to God by loving him with all our “heart, might, mind and strength” (D&C 4:2) We show fidelity to our spouse in the same ways.
