This is my blog. It is intended to allow others to share in my experiences while I am living and working in China, the Middle Kingdom.
I am working in Haiyang, Shandong, China with Westinghouse Electric Company. I started working for Westinghouse in December 2010. I arrived in China in late July 2011. I am assigned to the Joint Startup Team. The team consists of CB&I, Westinghouse, and Shandong Nuclear Power Company. My current function is the Turnover Coordinator for the Westinghouse Nuclear Island systems.
I grew up in Thayne, WY, USA. I have a BS from Brigham Young University and a MS from University of Wisconsin-Platteville. I am the oldest of 10 children, all boys. I have been married for 26+ years and my bride and I have 4 children and 4 grandchildren. I served in the US Navy as a Reactor Operator on the fast attack submarine USS CAVALLA (SSN684).
I am a son. I am a husband, father, and grandfather. I am a veteran. I am a builder. I am an engineer. I am a Mormon.
I hope that you find what I have to say worthwhile and enjoyable reading.

Halloween 2011. Thought we did a pretty good job of imitating the Beijing Opera face paint. Was the first Halloween party that my Chinese friends had ever been to.

I have written that everyone’s experience living in this country is different. The Expats (expatriates) don’t often live close enough to each other to get their “bearings” so what happens each day is totally unique to them. Hard to believe but most expats are “alone” in this country of 1.4 billion people; and if that doesn’t make any sense to you, you just have to live here to understand it I guess.

How do you like China? I spent a summer there in college (Nanjing). I visited Qingdao though, somewhat close to where you’re at. I loved it!

China is everything I hoped for and more. I admit I am much smarter about the country than I was. Go to Qingdao regularly since it is about the only place we can get any western foods.

Thanks for sharing me again. I don’t get to Texas very often anymore. I used to try to get to Houston and Galveston the end of April on even numbered years for a reunion. The sub mine was named after is in Galveston and the few remaining WWII shipmates get together there. It is an honor to meet them and hear real war stories. My experiences are pale compared to theirs.
